Thursday, June 4th - Yard Signs Update
We have officially sold all the signs we have ordered. To everyone who purchased them for $5 - thank you so much! The costs of the signs have been entirely recouped and the proceeds will be used to manage this website and email list, since the domain and the email distribution list services are not free. A community member has stepped up to fund ordering 105 more signs today. Once we finalize a design, we should have them in the coming weeks. They will be free for all who are interested and support our cause! Use the button at the top of this site to get your signs.
Monday, June 1st - PIA Request Honored
A fellow community member has requested records pertaining to ongoing phases of Aston Pointe developments in Elkton. Originally, the gathering and provision of records was held by a price tag of $2000. Enough public interest has gone to the cause, and the request was eventually honored at no cost through the Maryland Public Information Act (PIA). Community members experienced with these records are actively reviewing the package. We will update findings as they are found to be relevant to our cause. Public pressure is working.
Wednesday May 13th - Informal Community Meeting
A large group of local concerned residents met in the Elkton Library on Wednesday, May 13th at 5pm and shared concerns and information relevant to the project. We were joined by Cecil County Council President Al Miller, who will be supporting his constituents in raising our concerns. See informal meeting minutes here
Wednesday May 6th - Cecil County Technical Advisory Committee addresses the matter
The Cecil County Technical Advisory Committee addressed the matter, and indicated the many deficiencies in the Aston Pointe Phase 3 proposal. See the minutes for detailed information here
There is a proposal for 246 additional houses at the corner of Appleton Road and Telegraph Road (Route 273) is a tipping point for the Fair Hill and Appleton community. We aren't just fighting one development, but also for the safety and adequacy of our infrastructure.
We cannot assess the impact of this new proposal in a vacuum. To plan responsibly, Cecil County must acknowledge what is already coming:
Hundreds of Homes Already Approved: Phases 1 and 2 of this project have already been granted approval, bringing hundreds of new residences to this exact corridor.
The "Ghost" Traffic Problem: Current traffic and public safety assessments are based on empty fields, not reality. We cannot accurately gauge the strain on our roads until the residents of Phases 1 and 2 have actually moved in.
Safety First, Permits Second: It is premature to approve a third phase before seeing how our already strained emergency services and local intersections handle the massive influx of traffic from the already-approved developments.
Any assessment regarding the feasibility of this development must account for the hundreds of houses already happening before a single permit for Phase 3 is considered. Our community deserves growth that is measured, not unmanaged.
Stop Phase 3 before it's too late. Many communities have been successful in fighting against these types of developments. We can be the next!
